Tidal Sancuary

It was a beautiful day in Laguna Beach with several outcropping exposed by low tide that are usually only partially visible. I had just taken shelter from the sun beneath a small cave-like overhang in front and to the right of the beautiful rocks depicted in the painting. Huddled there, I felt as though I had the whole beach to myself and I was one with nature. I was captivated by the tiny smooth oval rocks in the sand that seemed to line up pointedly toward the heavily textured large rock on the left, which leaned toward the even larger rock on the right, overhanging the smaller smoother rocks in the water that flowed down the middle toward the sandy beach. There, the tiny oval rocks lay as if to lead my eye back through the scene once more. I knew then that I was going to have to paint it.
